Quit Smoking & Vaping
Most people here have already tried to stop. Often more than once.
Daily smoking in Australia has fallen to under 6% of adults — which means the people still smoking are the ones for whom stopping has been hardest. If willpower alone was going to do it, it would have by now. Vaping is the newer half of this, and often the harder one: it goes everywhere with you in a way cigarettes never did.
Smoking
Whether it is twenty a day or the three you have with a drink on Fridays. The habit is held in place by association — the coffee, the car, the break, the stress — and that is what the work goes after rather than the nicotine alone.
Vaping
Around 6% of Australians vape, and the highest rate by a distance is 18 to 24 year olds. Many started in order to stop smoking and now find themselves with something that is harder to put down, because there is never a reason to.
Stopping without gaining weight
The single most common reason people put off quitting, and a reasonable worry rather than an excuse. It can be addressed as part of the same work instead of being left as the next problem.
When you have stopped before and started again
Relapse is not failure, it is information. What matters is what was happening in the week it came back — and that is usually a feeling rather than a craving.
Smoking as stress relief
If cigarettes are how you get five minutes to yourself, taking them away without replacing what they did is why quitting so often does not hold.
